if you have some extra time (a rare commodity these days), i'd recommend a book called "Q&A" written by Vikas Swarup. it's a fairly short book (~350 pages) but does a good job of summarizing the issues that plague india with an exciting story-line packed with drama. if you're working on your tan and need some mental stimulation, you should be able to stretch this for a couple of hours of enjoyment.
