five cent hair cuts
so van has flown back home and the weight of it has set in. i have a "free" day in bangkok to do what i want; but nothing really outstanding to do on your fifth visit to bangkok. there's the token jim thompson house that we perpetually agree to visit and never bring ourselves to make the fifteen minute walk; likely in fear of being overwhelmed with tacky silk scarves embroidered with pink elephants wearing yellow ribbons. i'm sure jim has an impressive antique collection but his merchandising needs a make-over.
decided to trek through bangkok instead, with a 12-hour marathon walk through river city to the flower market back through china town and little india, hit silom and lumphini park and make my way back to siam square for some potential last-minute shopping.
higlight of the day: sitting with a thai family honouring the dead with a dozen buddhist monks chanting in the background
